The LPGA Tour is expected to announce it will drop two to three events and $4 million to $5 million in prize money from its 2009 schedule amid the nation's economic downturn, the New York Times reported Wednesday Nov. 19, 2008. Bivens said events that will be taken off next year's schedule include the $1.8 million SemGroup Championship and the $2.6 million Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika Sorenstam.

The LPGA Tour will have 31 official events next year, three less than in 2008. The 2009 schedule released Wednesday has 11 international events. Tournaments off the schedule include the ADT Championship, which starts Thursday and closes this year's slate. Purses will be around $55 million, about $5 million down from 2008.


The lawyer for three New Orleans Saints players facing suspension says none of them took steroids. The three were accused of taking a banned diurectic and went before an NFL appeals hearing Tuesday.
